Modernising a classic kitchen does not always mean starting over again. For this kitchen renovation, the focus was on retaining the warmth and character of the original interior while simultaneously introducing a more contemporary and functional material palette. A framed cabinetry style was initially considered, but the final design took a more refined Shaker-inspired direction. The Dezignatek Rhonda profile in Feather White was paired with matching Bestwood Melamine panels for the inside cabinetry, creating a light and timeless foundation that feels naturally connected to the home.
American White Oak Veneer from our Prime Veneer range brings warmth and contrast to the open shelving, custom-stained to complement the refurbished back panel of the peninsula. This considered timber detail helps bridge the kitchen’s traditional character with its updated finishes.
Durability was a key consideration for the benchtop. The homeowners wanted a surface that could withstand the demands of everyday use while still making a strong visual statement. Prime Porcelain Infinity Travertino was selected for its warm, layered appearance and its ability to introduce a subtle modern edge without feeling out of place in the classic setting. The only constraint was our porcelain comes in a 12mm thickness, however, this was no feat as it was mitred to create a substantial 40mm thickness profile, with the surface continuing behind the window and along the bar leaner for a cohesive, wrapped finish.
An over-mounted Mercer Everglade Bowl & 1¼ was chosen as a practical solution that also complements the overall design. The finished kitchen feels refreshed and considered, balancing classic detailing with contemporary materials to create a space that remains true to the character of the home
