Takapuna Beach House: Auckland’s newest coastal oasis.
A private, coastal oasis in one of Auckland’s most densely populated suburbs. It’s almost a contradiction.
Stood tall on one of Auckland’s most famous coastal suburbs, Takapuna, is a home that is anchored by a considered mix of material palettes. Designed to create a defining contrast between the minimalistic interior versus it’s coastal laid-back setting.
Clean lines establish the rhythm at Takapuna Beach House, but the use of Prime Art & Toitū Veneer ™ brings a little unpredictability. Grain changes direction, tones shift between panels, and broad timber surfaces give the interior a character that sits comfortably alongside its minimal detailing.
Architecture by Daniel Marshall Architects, the home stands in a distinctive position on Auckland’s North Shore, with the hustle and bustle of central Takapuna on one side and the beachside setting on the other. Its concrete exterior creates privacy within this busy setting, while the interior opens towards the coastal outlook.
Within the architectural framework, our Prime Veneer introduces a more expressive and layered element. Across the cabinetry, the variation between panels becomes part of the composition. Individual sections with mismatched American Walnut throughout the kitchen and master bedroom retain their own grain and tonal character, giving the eye something different to follow across an otherwise orderly interior.
It is an approach that gives Prime Veneer a prominent place in a modern interior all while never over-shadowing the desire for minimalism.
The home was designed to accommodate family and friends, with places for gathering as well as quieter retreat on those moments you need downtime. The cabinetry contributes to the domestic character, bringing detail and familiarity into a substantial architectural setting that would, at times, feel foreign.
At Takapuna Beach House, the appeal lies in how these elements work together. Precise lines give the interior structure; Prime Veneer’s natural and unpredictable grain and tone give it individuality. This project showcases how an expressive material can enrich a minimalistic space, with the cabinetry becoming an integral part of the home’s identity.
